Lower Providence residents can also stay informed by signing up the community’s mass notification system. The system has been in use since 2008, but new residents or those that have changed any personal information may want to update it online.

The system updates residents on issues like "severe weather, water quality, missing children alerts and street closures," according to a release issued by the township. Callers that are alerted via the recorded voice mails will notice the phone number 999-999-9999 come up on caller ID.
Many local businesses and homes were added back in 2008 automatically, but residents who don't have a land line and rely on mobile devices will want to sign up.

The system is managed by Blackboard Connect. Residents can both sign-up and remove their personal information from the notification system online. The township does say, however, that the information is kept safe.
"Please note that the Township and the notification provider, Blackboard Connect, take security and privacy concerns very seriously and will not sell or loan any data to a third party," said the release.
