YMCA, Lower Providence Negotiating Money for Land

Township officials are meeting with the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA and the Audubon Land Development Corporation to hammer out a deal.

According to The Times Herald, Lower Providence is still working on a deal to bring a brand new YMCA facility to the Club at Shannondell and township officials are in talks with representatives from both the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA and the Audubon Land Development Corporation (ALDC) to get a financial contribution to put towards future open space acquisitions.

The 17-acre plot set aside for the proposed YMCA is part of a 97-acre golf course LPT reportedly purchased in 1994 in part with fund from Montgomery County as part of an open space program.

"The money that we want back from the YMCA, or ALDC, we would want it put away for another open space acquisition," LPT Board of Supervisors Chairman Richard Brown told the Herald. "We haven’t agreed on the dollar amount. The county is asking for an amount, but I don’t know what that is... It is a very complicated issue as far as what is open space and what the value is of the open space.
