Black Powder Tavern Adjusts For Pandemic, Again
A large tent will cover an added dining space in Wayne's historic Black Powder Tavern.
WAYNE, PA — Black Powder Tavern reopened for business on June 30, but as the new coronavirus pandemic continues, the historic restaurant has added a large outdoor tent and online takeout ordering to keep customers coming.
Located at the foot of Valley Forge National Park, Black Powder Tavern has added online takeout ordering to its website, making it easy for guests to order before the pick up food.
And, as many restaurants are doing to replace inside seating, Black Powder Tavern has moved more seats outside. The restaurant has created a large covered tent space for diners. “With our expanded outdoor seating, our guests can join us and sit comfortably while socially distancing and enjoying their meals and drinks rain or shine,” said General Manager, Bernie Bottmeyer. “We literally have them covered.”

Black Powder Tavern seats a limited number of guests at a safe distance and strictly adheres to guidelines established by State Health Officials. Bottmeyer said this means continually cleaning and sanitizing the restaurant tables, chairs, all surfaces and restrooms, and taking all appropriate steps to serve guests safely while providing them with a memorable dining experience.
The popular dining destination also received a 2020 "Best of the Main Line" award from Main Line Today magazine for one of its signature dishes, Cajun Mac 'n Cheese. "Black Powder's Cajun Mac 'n Cheese keeps the heat on with tender chicken chunks, andouille sausage and Applewood smoked bacon" the magazine said, calling the entree "Decadence worthy of the Big Easy."

Black Powder Tavern is a historic restaurant located in Wayne, PA, at the footsteps of the Valley Forge National Park. The property has a strategic location at the nexus of U.S. 202 and Valley Forge Road/Route 252. For more than 200 years, the tavern, through various incarnations, has served as a meeting place for travelers.
Legends of American history, including George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and Prussian general Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, used the tavern as a strategic meeting place to enjoy an ale, discuss the formation of the country and used it as covert location to store munitions—notably, gun powder—during the American Revolution.
