Chris Mongeau Vying For Malvern Borough Mayor

Pennsylvania's Primary Election is May 18. Chris Mongeau is running for Mayor of Malvern Borough. He's served for 16 years on the borough's Planning Commission.

He explained why he is running for election.

Position Sought: Mayor of Malvern Borough

Party Affiliation: Republican

Family: Five children, three grandchildren; two children currently living at home with myself and my fiancé.

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?: N0

Education: I earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Villanova University

Occupation: I have spent most of my career as a sales professional.

Previous or Current Elected or Appointed Office: Member of the Planning Commission for 16 years, Chairman for eight years.

Why are you seeking elective office?: I have enjoyed living in Malvern for 17 years. I have seen many changes that have occurred in the borough. Some of the changes have been beneficial, while some have not added value to the community. As a member of the Planning Commission for 16 years, I have had the opportunity to participate in and serve the community. I believe that I will be a good Mayor because I have the perspective that I have gained from the Planning Commission and as a longtime borough resident. One of the areas where I believe I can make a positive impact is with the Malvern Police Department. Helping to ensure the safety of the community is essential to its continued growth.

The single most pressing issue facing our borough is: The borough has been going through a transitional period. New development and growth have increased the population of the borough. Going forward, managing the needs of the borough residents and the pressures of growth will be challenging.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?: I have many years of experience with local government, having been on the Planning Commission and asked to participate in and chair subcommittees and task forces dealing with many important borough issues.

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform: Since the Mayor has operational/ oversight control of the Police Department, I hope to partner with the department to continue to maintain the safety and security that makes Malvern Borough a great place to live and work.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?: Member of the Planning Commission for 16 years, Chairman for eight years.

The best advice ever shared with me was: Stick to your principles but look for compromise.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?: My kids attended the local public schools and live in the area. Both my son and daughter played ice hockey for their school teams, and I managed my daughter’s ice hockey club team for a few years.
