Volunteer events, cleanups, celebrations, art shows, and much more is happening around the Chester County area for Earth Day 2016.

Earth Day 2016 is Friday, April 22, and communities around southeastern Pennsylvania are celebrating in myriad ways.
Pennsylvania was just ranked the 18th "greenest" state in the country by WalletHub, an online personal finance resource. The study analyzed each state's environmental quality, eco-friendly behaviors, and climate-change contributions. Although the Keystone State had one of the worst air qualities of all states in the country (48th overall), it made up for it other categories.
United States Senator Gaylord Nelson founded Earth Day in 1970 as an environmental education movement that rapidly expanded.

The Sly Fox-sponsored Speekend Schuylkill cleanup and celebration will have events occurring all along the river, including in Norristown, Phoenixville, Mont Clare, Pottstown, Conshohocken, and more. The weekend of events begins April 22 and continues through April 24.
“Drawn From Nature”, the Audubon Center's,10th Annual Juried Art Show, is running from April 9 through APril 23. April 23. It's held at the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove on 1201 Pawlings Rd in Audubon.
April 22
A Chester Valley Trail cleanup will meet in Berwyn at 400 Swedesford Road. The cleanup registration begins at 1:30. The event will be followed by a social hour. For more information, see here.
April 23
Horsham's Jarrett Nature Center will hold a celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids yoga, macrovertebrate education, scavenger hunts, Eco-Art, and much more. See here for details.
The Friends of Dobson in Manayunk will hold a cleaning, mulching, and planting day from 9 a.m. to noon along Woodland Walk on 4667 Umbria Street, at the school. Please contact 215-483-0592 or pb19128@ymail.com to register for community service.

An Earth Day Festival will take place in the Upper Merion Township Building Park in King of Prussia throughout the day. According to ValleyForge.org, "These grounds invite nature lovers to come out in the sunshine and enjoy a fine spring morning. Programming includes educational sessions, demos, an art sale and food. Kids can enter a poster contest, learn how to fly a kite like an ace or tackle a take-home project. The Friends of Valley Forge Park host a bird walk."
The Elmwood Park Zoo will host a "Party for the Planet" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., which is free with Zoo admission. ValleyForge.org says, "Sure, it features clowns, music, a kid-centric play, an eco-friendly expo and plenty of animals. But Elmwood Park Zoo's annual Earth Day event also hosts Green Drop Charitable Donations, where attendees can bring clothing, kitchen items, books and baby items (but please, no appliances) to be recycled.
