Former East Whiteland Cop Wins Gender Discrimination Suit

She is being awarded $200,000 after a court ruled she was passed over for a promotion due to her gender.

EAST WHITELAND, PA — A former police officer in East Whiteland township has won a gender discrimination lawsuit that alleged she was passed over for a promotion due to being a woman.

According to federal documents, Sian Keating won $200,000 in damages thanks to a ruling by U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy Rice in Philadelphia last week.

Keating alleged a male candidate was chosen for a full time postilion in the East Whiteland Township Police Department after she was recommended for the position by the former chief.

She is now a full time officer at the Malvern Borough Police Department.

In addition to the damages, Keating's attorneys are seeking to get back pay and future pay the township is responsible for compensating her for the loss of income.
