GVCO Boys' Crew Team Finishes 13th In National Regatta

MALVERN, PA — After qualifying for the national championship by finishing in 5th place overall at the Philadelphia City Championships, Great Valley Community Organization Crew's Boys Varsity 4+ competed in the SRAA National Championship Regatta in Nashport, Ohio over Memorial Day weekend.

When all was said and done, the team finished 13th overall.

The team of seniors Ryan Layden, Nathan Paolella, Alex Jouin, and Colin Biddle placed second in their first heat and moved to the next round in an effort to qualify for semifinals.

Despite a brilliant sprint in the final 500 meters of the race, the varsity boat ended up 4th in their heat, missing the semifinals by just one position.

Overall, the boys finished 13th nationally in the Elite Varsity 4+ category.

The four seniors with junior coxswain, Caroline Glazer, put together an incredible team effort fueled by hard work, training, determination, and grit to end the season on a national stage.

All four rowers have been part of the program since its inception four years ago and will be moving on to a variety of universities in the fall.

The Great Valley School District awarded certificates of Special Recognition & Appreciation to these students for their achievement in the Philadelphia City Championships.

Great Valley was one of only three Pennsylvania schools in the finals at the Philadelphia City Championships where they secured their bid to the national championship.

GVCO is a local nonprofit community organization that provides a wide variety of community programming for children, adults and seniors in the Great Valley School District and the surrounding area.

Great Valley Crew is also a scholastic club sports team of Great Valley High School.

Registration for the fall season of Great Valley Crew is now open to all GVHS students who will be entering ninth through 12th grade. No experience is required to participate.
