John's opened under the purview of John and Laurice Hashem in 1970 and Chris later took over, continuing the tradition of serving top-notch eats.
"Sure, we had the recipes for our cheese steaks, hoagies, or pizza but you gave us so much more," the John's Pizza family wrote on Facebook. "You gave us the treasured ingredients for creating and sustaining a recipe of long-standing customers who became friends, making memories with each day we were open for business."

In their message to the community, John's listed its accolades, accomplishments, awards, and memorable moments. However, one aspect was highlighted by the team behind John's.
"But the greatest prize was hosting and serving you!"
John's was recently featured on Philadelphia Magazine's curated list of the "30 Cheesesteaks to Eat Before You Die."
Here's what Philly Mag said about John's steaks:
It's got a huge dining room, a long counter, a vintage Pac-Man arcade cabinet in the corner, and signed pictures on the wall from Paul Anka, the Supersuckers, Kenny Rogers and Mr. Tony Danza. Know what they call that 'round these parts? Bona fides, man. This place has been around the block and back again, looks like it hasn't redecorated since 1981, and turns out a solid roster of 'steaks on crispy bread. The only option here is with onions or without, but if you need anything more than that, you're too bougie for John's anyway.
"We simply wanted to deliver quality food day after day, hour after hour," the message said "With your support, we were able to do so, a tad shy of 50 years."
