"My hope is to make it legal for people who want them but to have guidelines so that people who don't want them aren't effected by their neighbors who do," Landrum said.

Once she gets the first signature, Landrum has 30 days to 150 signatures on her petition.

For those who might not be able to stop by the Malvern Buttery Saturday, Landrum said residents interested in owning backyard poultry can email her at valerielandrum@gmail.com.

All signatories must be Malvern Borough residents.

Some benefits of owning backyard poultry include fresh eggs, fertilizer from their feces, pest control, and they just make good pets and offer learning experiences for adults and kids, Landrum said.

Landrum told Patch she may hold a free seminar in March to show people how to keep healthy chickens and make coops predator proof.

The Malvern Buttery is located at 233 E. King St., Malvern.
