New Main Line Kosher Pizzeria Opening Thursday

Zagafen — owned by the folks from Zavino, Citron & Rose Tavern & Market, and Enoteca Tredici — is opening its doors Thursday.

MAIN LINE, PA — The Main Line's newest eatery is planning to open this week at the former location of The Dairy Cafe. Kosher pizzeria Zagafen will open Thursday, Aug. 29 at 370 Montgomery Ave. in Bala Cynwyd.

Zagafen is owned and operated by the Zavino Hospitality Group and is an all-kosher update of their popular pizzeria and wine bar Zavino.

Owner David Magerman and consultant Greg Dodge of ZHG announced this update to Bala Cynwyd, serving casual, kosher dairy fare in a setting that complements the offerings at their nearby Citron & Rose Tavern & Market at 261 Montgomery Ave.

“Zagafen expands on Zavino’s delicious pizzas and Italian-inspired fare, with diverse dishes that are not only vegetarian friendly and adaptable to gluten-free diets, but also kosher to meet the needs of the large Jewish community here,” Magerman. “We’re proud to offer an inclusive, welcoming menu of Italian-inspired favorites that anyone can enjoy, regardless of dietary restrictions or food sensitivities.”

The menu will include a variety of Zavino classics, as well as some dishes inspired by sister restaurant Tredici, and some original items not available at the other locations. Highlights will include:

  • Yellowtail Crudo with pistachio vinaigrette and Thai basil
  • Spaghetti Squash with carrots, zucchini, pine nuts, tomato sauce and provolone picante cheese
  • Ricotta with citrus olive oil and rosemary flatbread
  • The ’Stache Pizza with pistachio pesto, mozzarella, arugula and lemon vinaigrette
  • Kennett Pizza with bechamel, wild mushrooms, mozzarella and rosemary oil
  • Charred Caulilini with creamy harissa and herbed crumbs
  • Whole Pan-Roasted Branzino with garlic spinach

In addition to accommodating kosher dairy diets, the menu is also ideal for pescatarians, vegetarians and other restricted diets not often accommodated by traditional Italian restaurants.

The menu will be complemented by a full bar. Beverage selections will include:

  • Calista, gin with strawberries, citrus cordial, lemon and tonic
  • The Librarian, rye and bourbon whiskeys with Combier, bitters, chai and smoke
  • Mythos Light Lager from Greece
  • Pavolino Pinot Grigio from Italy
  • Barkan Pinot Noir from Israel

Happy hour offerings, available Sunday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
