Pair of Events This Fall To Honor, Support Paoli Battlefield

Two events in support of the Paoli Battlefield in Malvern have been announced for this fall.

The 3rd annual Paoli Battlefield Heritage Day, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, will feature a military time line and a veterans recognition at the Revolutionary War battlefield.

The event itself, which will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., will include food, kids games, re-enactors, historical demonstrations, veterans groups and the Pennsylvania National Guard.

The battleground was the site of what George Washington’s army called the “Paoli massacre,” which British forces routed American General Anthony Wayne’s forces on Sept. 20-21, 1777. In all, 53 revolutionary soldiers will killed, along with 113 wounded.

The second event will be the 2nd annual Fund Raising Dinner and Silent Auction in support of the Paoli Memorial Association and the Paoli Battlefield Preservation Fund, both of which are all-volunteer, non-profit organizations.

The evening program, scheduled from 6 to 9 on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Desmond Hotel in Malvern, will include carving and pasta stations. The keynote speaker will be journalist and author Bruce Mowday.

The silent auction will benefit both non-profit organizations. Cecily Tynan of 6ABC Action News will serve as emcee for the auction.

“We need your help in unkeep with the grounds, preserving the monuments and making this place safe and accessible to the public,” said organizers in a statement.
