The Phelps Lions Prep Basketball Team captured the Peddie School Invitational Tournament, for the second consecutive year. Founded in 1972, the tournament is one of the most prestigious and competitive basketball tournaments for independent schools in the greater Philadelphia area. In the tournaments forty-seven-year history there have been only eight teams that have had two consecutive championships like Phelps.

The Lions defeated Our Savior Lutheran in the first round by a score of 68-52 in a game that was all but decided by half time. Saturday featured one of the most exciting games of the first tournament with Phelps taking on host The Peddie School. The Lions were able to overcome 17 3 pointers from Peddie, including 8 in the first quarter to move on to the championship with a score of 78-74. The Lions went head to head with its traditional PAISSA foe, The Kiski School.

The title match can only be described as a true test of wills, with both teams having played 4 games in just 4 days. Phelps overcame a slow start to tie things up at 10 at the end of the first quarter. Phelps found its momentum and eventually ran out to a fifteen-point halftime advantage. The second half was marked by a strong defensive battle with Phelps ultimately, capturing their second consecutive PSIT crown with a score of 58-42. The Lions’ Head Coach Trey Morin said, “We didn’t have the easy road playing four straight days but our guys competed at a high level, and I couldn’t be more proud of the toughness they showed. This is a great step and accomplished one of the many goals our program has set for ourselves this season.”
