Pennsylvania's Primary Election is May 18. Marty Laney is running for reelection to Malvern Borough Council, bringing years of experience as a nursing administrator. There are three seats open and voters may vote for three borough council candidates.

Family: My daughters, sister, and niece live in the area.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?: No
Education: Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing, Diploma; University of Pennsylvania, Bachelor of Science, Nursing and Master of Science, Nursing.
Occupation: I am retired after practicing for 46 years as a Registered Nurse.
Previous or Current Elected or Appointed Office: Member of Malvern Borough Council, Member of the negotiating team for the police contract, Chair of Finance and Administration Committee.
Why are you seeking elective office?: As a nurse, I never had to worry if what I did had meaning. There is no greater joy than to be of service to others. As a retiree, I served as Recording Secretary to the Malvern Planning Commission and I'm currently President of Landmark I Homeowners Association, a volunteer at the Wayne Senior Center, and a member of Main Line Quilters.
The single most pressing issue facing our borough is: Change. To paraphrase E.E. Cummings, I’ll “Honor the past and Welcome the Future.”
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?: As a member of Council, my experience in nursing administration and civic leadership has prepared me to help manage taxpayer dollars. Additionally, I bring my perspective as a healthcare professional to Council, to ensure that the Malvern is doing all we can to safeguard the public health of our residents.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?: During my career in Nursing Administration I was responsible for budgets, staffing, risk management, and quality assurance.
The best advice ever shared with me was: The Golden Rule — Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
