Snow Emergency Begins Early Wednesday In Malvern

Malvern has declared a Snow Emergency and vehicles should be removed from Snow Emergency Routes listed here.

MALVERN, PA — Malvern's Mayor David Burton today declared a Snow Emergency in Malvern beginning officially at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

Burton announced Tuesday afternoon the Snow Emergencey would take effect on Dec. 16, at 7 a.m. and remain until 7 p.m. Thursday.

The declaration comes as the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for southeast Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey, effective Wednesday morning.

The NWS predicts heavy mixed precipitation with snow accumulations in excess of 12 inches, along with a light glaze of ice. Winds gusts may be as high as 35 miles per hour, the NWS said Tuesday.

"This emergency declaration will facilitate the movement of traffic and will combat the hazards of excessive snow and ice on the highways or portions of highways within the Borough," said Burton.

The declaration states that: "During the term of the emergency, it shall be unlawful for any person to park a motor vehicle or to allow the same to remain parked, on any highway or portion of highway listed below. It will be unlawful to operate any motor vehicle or tractor on any such highway, or portion of highway listed, unless such vehicle or tractor is equipped with adequate equipment to provide sufficient traction to keep such vehicle or tractor in motion so that other traffic on such highways will not be blocked or seriously impeded."

Roadways identified as Snow Emergency Routes in Malvern are:

  • Bridge Street, from King Street to Old Lincoln Highway
  • King Street, from the eastern Borough line to the western Borough line
  • Monument Avenue, from Sugartown Road to Warren Avenue
  • Old Lincoln Highway, from the eastern Borough line to the western Borough line
  • Sugartown Road, from the southern Borough line to King Street
  • Warren Avenue, from Paoli Pike to the northern Borough line.

The borough's announcement warns, "Any violators will be ticketed and towed."

The mayor also requested that where possible citizens park their vehicles in driveways and off the street during the emergency.

"This will allow fire, ambulance, and other necessary vehicles access to all neighborhoods," Burton said.
