What Is the Tombstone-Shaped Marker Near Paoli Hospital?
It bears a cryptic inscription.

Have you ever noticed the little stone marker at the intersection of Route 30 and West Central Avenue in Paoli, near the SEPTA overpass?
It bears a cryptic inscription:Â "19 M to P"
What does it mean? We reached out to East Whiteland Historical Commission member Tim Caban (even though the marker is technically located in Willistown).
"It is 19 miles to Philadelphia, and I'd say it's a modern replica of the old style marker. It was probably cheaper to just take a gravestone template and put the marker on it," Caban explained in an email.
If you want to see a real old marker, Caban suggested two locations. There's one just east of the entrance to the corporate center across from Uhler's Feed and Seed in Frazer.
"It looks like a minature washington monument," Caban said.
The other example of the old-style marker does not have any inscription and can be found along King Road at Line Road, Caban said.
"It would have been the marker to distinguish between Willistown and East Goshen, which is why Line Road got its name," Caban said.
