Willistown Has Chester County's First Coronavirus Death

The victim was an 89-year-old man who had numerous underlying health issues, according to the county.

WILLISTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The first death related to the new coronavirus, known as COVID-19, was reported in Chester County Monday.

The county's COVID-19 website shows the first death in the county was in Willistown Township.

According to the county, the victim was an 89-year-old man who was hospitalized and had a number of underlying conditions.

"We were heartbroken to learn of this first death in Chester County, and on behalf of the whole community, we offer our deepest condolences to loved ones of this individual," Chester County Commissioners said in a statement Monday. "We cannot emphasize enough the need at this time for everyone to follow the stay-at-home order, to focus on the things that are only absolutely essential, and heed the hygiene steps recommended, so that we can work together to call a halt to this dreadful virus."

Willistown has five cases of the virus. Chester County overall has 146 cases and has had 1,415 negative test results come back as of Monday.

Tredyffrin and Easttown townships have the most cases with 12 and 11, respectively.

East Whiteland has nine cases, East Goshen six, Charlestown two, and Malvern one.
