100,000 Meals and Counting!

Volunteers in hats and hairnets will be packing their 100,000^th meal for hungry schoolchildren (through Rise Against Hunger*) on March 8^th at Newtown Square Presbyterian Church!

NSPC’s event organizers are extremely thankful for the donations and volunteers that have allowed us to reach this extraordinary milestone.

Celebrating our fifth year of this important mission, we have once again raised approximately $7,000 for the ingredients needed to pack 20,700 nutritious meals. (One meal costs just 34 cents! A donation of $34 provides enough food for 100 meals!)

Packing day involves 125 volunteers – from young children to young-at-heart seniors – happily engaged together for two hours pouring rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a vitamin pack into plastic bags, sealing and labeling them, then loading the boxes into trucks. Music plays, gongs ring for each 1,000 meals, and smiles abound.

Hunger and malnutrition are a global problem, and the food that Rise Against Hunger provides is often the only daily nutritious meal that underprivileged children receive. Parents send their children to school for the food, enrollments rise, and children get to concentrate on learning – rather than hunger.

This event is a fast-paced and well-organized local effort to alleviate suffering both at home and abroad.
