Bird Watch Hike Set For May 8 In Newtown Square

May is peak migration time for birds, and attendees will see warblers, vireos, and thrushes, and maybe even bald eagles.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA — The public is invited to attend a spring bird watch hike in Newtown Square next month.

The Chester Ridley Crum Watersheds Association (CRC) Watersheds Association and the Newtown Township Environmental Advisory Council are hosting its first Spring Migration Bird-Watching Hike on Saturday, May 8.

The hike will take place from 8:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on the 240-acre Garrett Williamson property, 395 Bishop Hollow Road in Newtown Square.

Expert birders, Win Shafer and Mike McGraw, of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club, will lead the hike.

Attendees can expect to see migrating birds such as warblers, vireos, and thrushes, and maybe even bald eagles, as they are nesting and have been spotted on the Garrett Williamson property.

Hikers will be participating in the Global Big Day, an event organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, where more than 100,000 bird checklists worldwide will be submitted online to eBird.

The hike is co-sponsored by CRC, Newtown Township EAC, and Garrett Williamson.

Those who join the hike should bring their own water bottle, comfortable walking shoes, and binoculars if you want them.

Attendees must wear masks.
