Coronavirus Hospitalizations, Ventilator Use Rise In Delco

Despite those figures increasing, new cases and the positivity rate have seen slight drops, according to data from the state.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Coronavirus hospitalizations and ventilator usage have increased in Delaware County, according to the latest data provided by the state.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health's early warning dashboard shows two of the six key metrics measuring the virus's impact increased in Delaware County from April 16 to April 23.

Three others saw decreases and one remained the same.

Ventilator usage among hospitalized coronavirus patients went up from an average of 8.9 to 13.1, according to state data.

Average daily coronavirus hospitalizations went up slightly, from 93.7 to 95.1.

The percent of people showing up to hospitals with coronavirus-like illnesses stayed the same at 1.1 percent.

Meanwhile, newly reported cases have gone down in Delaware County. The week ending April 23 saw 1,156 new cases, down from 1,282 the week before.

The county's positive testing rate also dropped slightly from 8.8 percent to 8.4.

And the incidence rate per 100,000 people decreased from 226.2 to 204.

As of Monday, the county has seen a total of 46,243 cases of the coronavirus and 1,375 coronavirus-related deaths, 826 of which have been among long term care facility and nursing home residents.
