Former Main Line Teacher Marries Mackenzie Scott, Bezos's Ex-Wife
Dan Jewett taught chemistry at a Main Line high school for several years and recently married billionaire Mackenzie Scott.
MAIN LINE, PA — A former Main Line high school teacher has married one of the most prominent billionaires in the world, according to reports.
Dan Jewett used to teach chemistry at Harriton High School. Now, he's the husband of billionaire Mackenzie Scott.
Scott is the ex-wife of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos who has a reported net worth of $57.5 billion, putting at No. 3 on the list of the world's wealthiest women and the 20th-wealthiest person overall.

According to Action News, Jewett was a beloved teacher at Harriton High School from 2002 to 2011.
"He is just a really good person who genuinely cares about people," former student Josh Verlin told the outlet. "He cares about science. He cares about learning. He cares about all the things you need to care about to better society, to better the world, to better the country."

And Jewett's actions reflect just that, as he and Scott committed to giving away most of their wealth to charity on philanthropic nonprofit website The Giving Pledge.
"I have been a teacher for the majority of my life, as well as a grateful student of the generosity of those around me," Jewett wrote on the website. "This has meant doing my best to follow their example by passing on resources of all kinds—from time, to energy, to material possessions—when I have had them to give. And now, in a stroke of happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know—and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others."
According to the Wall Street Journal, Bezos had good things to say about Jewett, who now teaches in Seattle.
"Dan is such a great guy, and I am happy and excited for the both of them," Bezos said in a statement to the outlet.
Another former student, Jacob Eidinger, told the Philadelphia Inquirer students would be jealous of others if they didn't have class with Jewett.
"I’m thrilled for him — not only that he found someone to spend the rest of his life with, but also someone who has the same passion to give back to the community," he told the outlet.
Scott has committed to giving her wealth where it's needed most.
"We each come by the gifts we have to offer by an infinite series of influences and lucky breaks we can never fully understand," she wrote on The Giving Pledge site. "In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me, I have a disproportionate amount of money to share. My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty."
Scott and Bezos divorced in 2019, leaving her with $35.6 billion in Amazon stock.
Forbes reported in December that Scott donated more than $4.1 billion to 384 organizations supporting Americans during the coronavirus pandemic.
