Four Key Coronavirus Metrics Rise In Delaware County

Despite ongoing efforts to provide vaccinations to residents across Delaware County, some coronavirus metrics are seeing increases.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The coronavirus appears to be trending in the wrong direction in Delaware County, according to data from the state.

Four of the six key coronavirus metrics measured by the Pennsylvania Department of Health have increased over the past week despite increased vaccination efforts in Delaware County. As of Wednesday, 39,560 people have been partially vaccinated and 33,358 have been full vaccinated in the county.

Newly reported cases, the incidence rate, hospitalizations, and the testing positivity rate all saw increases from Feb. 19 to Feb. 26.

New cases went up from 634 to 658 and the incidence rate increased from 111.9 per 100,000 people to 116.1.

Additionally, average daily coronavirus specific hospitalizations increased from 65 to 75.4.

The positivity rate went up, but very slightly: it increased from 6 percent to 6.1 percent.

Ventilator use decreased. Average daily ventilator use went down from 6.7 to 6.3.

The number of people showing up at emergency rooms with coronavirus-like illnesses remained steady at 0.5 percent.

As of Tuesday, Delaware County has seen 38,199 cases of the virus and 1,277 virus-related deaths, and of those deaths 803 have been long term care facility or nursing home residents.
