On Sunday, September 13th, you could feel the enthusiasm at Newtown Square Presbyterian Church!
The parking lot was full of congregation members - wearing masks and maintaining social distancing protocols - to witness a groundbreaking ceremony for the church’s expansion. The plans for this project began over five years ago, led by the Reverend Dr. Jeanne Thomas, the church’s “Growing Our Future” committee, and the “Capital Campaign Team.” During the ceremony, Pastor Jeanne prayed: “As we break ground today, we take the first step in the construction of a new space for worship, study, and fellowship.”
As members of all ages came together, several church leaders expressed their excitement on this momentous occasion. James Kucera, co-chair of the project, said, “We are passionate about the vision God has laid out for us. Our church will be relevant for decades to come.” Lynne Corle added, “Our young families will have opportunities to become an even more vibrant community of faith.” And Ginny Berman summarized the strong feelings of God’s faithfulness even in the midst of Covid-19: “This is a time when we need our faith and want to expand our ministries to our entire community.”

This additional space will welcome and accommodate our growing membership, and ensure we can provide safe access for everyone – from infants to our eldest members, all in a comfortable venue. The enhancements to the church will include:
• A well-equipped nursery adjacent to the sanctuary

• A large multi-purpose room with a movable stage that provides first-floor convenience for activities, events, and programs.
• A gathering space for coffee hours and social events.
• Enlarged ADA-compliant bathrooms and a ramp that allows access to all rooms on the main level.
• A music room for our excellent choirs and an updated youth room with easy access to the multi-purpose room.
The first cornerstone for NSPC was laid in 1957, and now, over 60 years later, it is thrilling to see the church expand once again! Throughout the years of planning its addition, NSPC relied on this quote from the prophet Jeremiah: "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jer. 29:11.
An exciting future is exactly what NSPC has in store, and we invite the community to join us on this journey of transformation, where we hope to provide ministry and mission for many years to come!
