MJT’s coaches attend a coach’s clinic with Marple Newtown High School to share the same philosophy, fundamentals and basics from top to bottom in football and cheer leading.
Coaches are also given a checklist to follow in terms of playing time and giving each athlete a fair opportunity to participate and succeed.
MJT also engages in off-the-field activities such as MJT Temple Night where all athletes are invited on the field and in the team tunnel at Lincoln Financial Field for a Temple University football game, as well as the adult social that gives back to a local charity each year and a float in the Fourth of July Parade.
MJT’s football and cheer teams will both be getting new uniforms this season and will be playing select games on the state-of-the-art turf field at Marple Newtown High School.
The Bert Bell Memorial Conference, which is the league MJT is affiliated with, just approved an age-based league to take effect for the 2018 season.
The age-based levels will look like the following:
Players must be these ages by Aug. 1 to participate at the following levels.
- 5 and 6 years old (Kindergarten and first grade): Flag Football
- 6 and 7 years old (first and second grade): Rookie Tackle Football (7 on 7). Six year olds have the option of Flag or Rookie Tackle
- 8 and 9 years old (third and fourth grade): Tackle Football
- 10 and 11 years old (fifth and sixth grade): Tackle Football

Mostly everyone will be playing with others in their grade unless there is a case of someone who is older. For example, a sixth grader who turns 12 on July 25 will have to play with the 12 and 13 years old team.
For athletes going into seventh and eighth grades at Paxon Hollow Middle School and interested in playing football, there will be a meeting in May for which the date and time will be announced at school. Seventh and eighth graders should hold off on registering until after meeting at school.
