Marple Newtown Baseball Wins State Championship In Extra Innings

A dinger from Luke Zimmerman in the 10th inning of the class 5A state championship game against Lower Dauphin sealed the team as champs.

The Marple Newtown Tigers Baseball Team are officially PIAA Class 5A baseball champions after an extra inning homer by Luke Zimmerman Thursday night Penn State’s Medlar Field.

The team was down 1-0 the Lower Dauphin in the fourth inning, but by the sixth the Tigers evened the score 1-1.

Then the next several innings were tense.

But it was Zimmerman's solo bomb in the 10th that sealed the deal, bringing the Class 5A title to Delco.

This marks the team's first-even stat championship.

Overall, the Tigers had a stellar 25-2 season and upon arrival back to Broomall were greeted by friends, family, and many others who were elated at the victory.

Congratulations to MNHS Baseball for winning the PIAA 5A State Championship! The accomplishment is the first of its kind in the long and celebrated history of our baseball program. Moreover, MNHS has become the first high school in Delaware County to win a PIAA baseball state championship. The team concluded the season with a 25-2 record and arrived home to a contingent of parents and students eager to share in their success.
