Meet The Cast of The Media Theatre's "Carousel"
The classic musical is on stage now through Oct. 22

The Media Theatre has the region's professional revival of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "Carousel" on stage September 20 through October 22. Directed by Jesse Cline, the production features professional actors from the Philadelphia area as well as from New York.
"Carousel", which had its premiere on Broadway in 1945, revolves around carousel barker Billy Bigelow whose romance with millworker Julie Jordan comes at a price. After a robbery goes wrong, he loses his life but is given a second chance to make things right. The score features "If I Loved You", "You'll Never Walk Alone" and more. Time Magazine referred to "Carousel" as 'the best musical of the 20th Century'.

Joseph Spieldenner
The cast features Broadway's Joseph Spieldenner as Billy Bigelow. Originally from Main, Joseph recently performed the show "Company" at Barrington Stage with Aaron Tveit. On Broadway, he was Grantaire in the 2014 revival of "Les Miserables", a show he also performed on its 25th Anniversary National Tour. He's been seen at The Paper Mill Playhouse, North Shore Music Theatre, Sacramento Music Circus, North Carolina Theatre, and was seen previously a decade ago in "Oklahoma!" at The Media Theatre. His television credits include Netflix's "Iron Fist" and InvDiscovery's "Redrum".

Maxwell Porterfield
Maxwell Porterfield plays the role of Julie Jordan. A New York based singer, she is originally from Austin, Texas. She performed the roles of Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady" and Christine Daae in "Phantom" previously and makes her Media debut with "Carousel".

Elisa Matthews

The plum role of Nettie Fowler, who sings "You'll Never Walk Alone", is performed by Elisa Matthews. She's been seen previously at The Media as Francesca in "The Bridges of Madison County", and as Irene Molloy in "Hello, Dolly", as well as Maria Von Trapp in "The Sound of Music" plus other productions. She is a three-time Barrymore Award nominee and has also appeared locally at The Arden Theatre, Bristol Riverside Theatre, and The Walnut Theatre.

Susan Mattson
Susan Mattson plays Mrs. Mullin in her Media debut. She has appeared at Allens Lane Theatre, and in many productions including "Quartet", "The Clean House", and "The Little Foxes".

George Slotin George Slotin also makes his Media debut as Mr. Snow. He's been seen at Radio City Music Hall and on television's "Best Week Ever with Neil Patrick Harris", as well as in "Show Boat" at The Shubert Theatre.

Carl Smith
Carl Smith returns to Media as Jigger. He was in "Billy Elliot: The Musical" two years ago. Carl has also appeared regionally in many productions at The Hedgerow Theatre as well as at Bristol Riverside, People's Light, and The Montgomery Theatre.

Madalyn St. John
The role of Carrie is performed by Madalyn St. John, who last appeared at The Media Theatre as Minnie Fay in "Hello, Dolly!". She's been in shows at The Hedgerow Theatre and The Candlelight Theatre in Delaware, and is a current member of Playhouse West Philadelphia.
"Carousel" also features Media's Beada Briglia and Willem Guenther as Louise and Carnival Boy, as well as Jim Conte as The Starkeeper, and Kelly Briggs as Mr. Bascombe. The Ensemble players are Todd Berkich, Dante Brattelli, Madalaina D'Angelo, Sarah Jane Knoblich, Sam Nagel, Dana Orange, Maddy Pelesh, Kristin Smith, Liam Snead, Erika Wasko, and Tasha Waters.
Austy Hicks plays Enoch Snow, Jr., and his siblings are played by two youth groups-- Group One: Charlie Carroccio, Mary Katherine Schwartz, Savanna Galloway, Anna Doyle, Alexsa McKeown, Mia Macciocca and Group Two: Adrian Henry, Sutton Gold, Drew Murphy, Brynne Washbourne, Lauren Mcalee, Madison Vassilakopoulos. All of the youth are members of The Media Theatre's Acting Classes or New School educational opportunities.
