Newtown Square Public Library Hosts Artist Ronnie Bookbinder!
The Newtown Square Public Library is honored to host Ronnie Bookbinder's exciting art exhibit throughout May and June!
Choosing which major to pursue in college can be tough. Despite loving art or music, many of us opt for traditional endeavors, like business, medicine, or teaching.
Fortunately for Ronnie Bookbinder, she loved her career as a Reading Specialist and ESL Instructor in Lower Merion. And after retirement, her minor in Fine Arts and History moved to the forefront.
For the last ten years, Ronnie has followed her interest in art, and now has many pieces juried into shows all over the greater Philadelphia/Delaware area. She is currently in the Historic Yellow Springs Show, the Berwyn Art Gallery, the Cerulean Gallery, and fortunately for us – the Newtown Square Public Library!

Ronnie paints in a vibrantly loose and modern style, and truly values her time spent in the studio. She works in acrylics, which allow her to paint and re-paint a piece until she’s satisfied, which may take months! Her inspiration comes from a variety of sources – travels with her family, landscapes, animals…she sees beauty in the colors, shapes and rhythms of both the natural and man-made world. While her subjects are varied, one constant interest is cities. She elaborated:
“I grew up in Brooklyn, NYC, and love to study urban life. We should notice the beauty in the strong lines of industrial sites, the light, the distinction of the colors, the power and energy of the people. Seeing life as it is – not as we wish it to be – engages me.”

Ronnie has studied with a variety of talented instructors, and her work has received many awards. She is a member of the Delaware Valley Art League (DVAL), the National Society of Painters of Casein and Acrylic, New Hope Artists League, and the Sketch Club. She also generously donates pieces for charity, including Rise Against Hunger – which raises money for starving schoolchildren.
Ronnie described her viewpoint about her first show at Newtown Square Public Library:
“I feel that the opportunity to paint and exhibit my art is a gift. It brings joy to me. Sharing these paintings with library patrons and the public, who may appreciate what I have done – well, that is a perfect circle.”
