Newtown Square Welcomes a New Farmer’s Market!

Opens Friday, June 4th at St. Alban's Episcopal Church - 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Love farm-fresh food, flowers, and friendly neighbors? Then put an exciting new venue on your schedule this Spring! Newtown Square Farmers’ Market opens June 4th, and will run every Friday through September - from 3:00 pm to 6:00pm!

Conveniently located on the beautiful property of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church (near the corner of 252 and West Chester Pike), the market will be within walking distance of surrounding neighborhoods and shops – with free parking. Why would a church (which has been a member of Newtown Square for almost 100 years!) undertake hosting such a major weekly event?

"To live in community requires constant practice, and because of the pandemic, we've lost that chance to practice community," said Fr. Matthew Dayton-Welch, rector of St. Alban's Episcopal Church. "We hope this Farmers’ Market gives us a much-needed opportunity to exercise our community muscles again, to celebrate the best of local vendors, and be grateful for the chance to gather safely together."

Newtown Square’s Farmers’ Market is unique, not just because of the extraordinary location, but because it is run completely by volunteers! Fortunately, there is a groundswell of support among many local organizations – including the township leadership. Township Manager Stephen Nease elaborated:

"The Township is excited about the Farmers’ Market at St. Alban’s because it gives us an opportunity to create a sense of belonging. This is especially important during COVID-19; people need a place to connect and feel like life is normal."

One of the exceptional vendors who will participate every week is Urban Roots Farm - Urban Roots Farm (grazecart.com). Operated by Jack Goldenberg and Matt Danelutti, it cultivates a 26-acre parcel of land on the historic Garrett Williamson 240-acre property in Newtown Square. Jack and Matt expressed their feelings about participating in the Farmer’s Market:

We love this opportunity to feed more of our neighbors healthy, locally-grown, delicious food. We are extremely grateful to be able to supply our beautiful, fresh produce at the Newtown Square Farmers’ Market, and look forward to delivering weekly CSA* members’ boxes there as well!

*Urban Roots Farm offers a 25-week subscription to their Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, and encourages everyone to explore the benefits that a weekly delivery of fresh vegetables can bring. Subscriptions are available on their website, and clients have the convenient option to pick up their produce at the market every week!

Exciting summer programs are in the planning stages for the Farmer’s Market – from music and art exhibits to a pop-up garden. Like to be involved?
