The Delco Skatepark Coalition's digital petition will be used "to make a case for building a park with local municipalities."
DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — A group of skateboarding enthusiasts are looking to establish a spot for skaters to hone their skills in Delaware County.
A group dubbed the Delco Skatepark Coalition recently launched a digital petition requesting the construction of a skatepark in the county.
"We believe that kids — of all ages — need more avenues for recreation and outdoor activity," the petition reads. "Skateboarding is one of the most accessible, inexpensive and creative sports out there."

"Mainly we will use it to make a case for building a park with local municipalities, and also communicate with everyone about our steps forward," organizers said on Facebook.
Skateparks, according to organizers, appeal not only to kids but also to parents who grew up skating and want to pass their love of this sport to the next generation.
"The skating community wants a place to play, practice and show off their ability, and our children need a place to learn this sport," the petition reads. "The reality of the 2020 pandemic has shown us, as residents of Delaware County, that our outdoor space could be better utilized. This rings particularly true for school-age kids who have outgrown the playground or don't play organized sports. Skateboarding is a great outlet for those kids."
In addition to skateboarders, inline skaters, roller skaters, scooters, BMX cyclists also frequent skateparks.
