Thousands Marple, Newtown Residents Still Out Of Power Thursday

As of early Thursday evening, more than 3,000 Marple and Newtown PECO customers are still without power due to Wednesday's storms.

MARPLE-NEWTOWN, PA — Nearly 3,000 PECO customers in Marple and Newtown townships still do not have power late Thursday night due to storms that hit the region Wednesday.

PECO is reporting 974 customers in Marple Township are without power, and that 1,936 in Newtown Township are without power as of about 11:20 p.m. Thursday

In total, both townships have 72 outages.

The Newtown Square Fire Company Wednesday afternoon said the following roads are closed due to downed trees, poles, and wires:

  • Goshen Road between Rockwood Farms and Echo Valley;
  • Goshen Road in front of Culbertson;
  • the intersection of Caley and Horton;
  • and Marple Road

Newtown officials said some buildings have been struck by lightning, as well.

The Broomall Fire company shared photos of a tree that crashed down on a vehicle on Foxcroft Road amid the storm and said numerous trees and wires are down in Marple.

There is no word on when the roads will reopen and when power will be fully restored.
