Roadwork To Cause Delays On 17 Miles Of Delaware County Highway This Week

PennDOT has announced construction beginning this week on project to repair and resurface 17 miles of state highway in Delaware County.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced construction beginning this week on a $7.2 million project to repair and resurface 17 miles of state highway in Delaware County.

The project seeks to improve travel conditions on eight state highways in Delaware County.

Weather permitting, crews will work weeknights from tonight through Friday, Aug. 14, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. to mill and pave Marple Road/Church Lane between Route 3 (West Chester Pike) and Darby Road in Marple and Haverford townships, and Darby Creek Road between Lawrence Road and Marple Road in Haverford Township.

The additional state highways scheduled for resurfacing under this contract include:

  • Smith Bridge Road between the Delaware state line and Valley Brook Road in Chadds Ford and Concord townships, and Chester Heights Borough
  • Creek Road between Sweet Water Road and Tanguy Road in Thornbury Township
  • MacDade Boulevard between Cooke Avenue and U.S. 13 (Chester Pike) in Collingdale and Glenolden boroughs
  • Upland Avenue/22nd Street between Route 352 (Edgmont Avenue) and Ridley Creek in the City of Chester;
  • Baltimore Pike between Wycombe Avenue and U.S. 13 (Church Lane) in Upper Darby Township and Lansdowne Borough
  • Webb Road between U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) and Oakland Road in Chadds Ford Township.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work zones because slowdowns will occur during construction. The contractor’s schedule is dependent on the weather.

All resurfacing work is expected to finish in late October. Crews will replace curb ramps on these roads through July 2016.
