Tornado Confirmed In Delco

Numerous homes in the Glen Mills-Thornbury area were damaged when a tornado touched down in Delco during the brutal storm overnight.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The National Weather Service confirmed what Delaware County officials suspected: a tornado hit the county during the overnight storm.

According to the National Weather Service, a EF2 tornado touched down near Glen Mills Thursday night.

Officials said the tornado followed a straight line of wind damage.

The National Weather Service said crews are still surveying the area and that a full report with more details will be released soon.

Numerous homes were severely damaged as a result of the storm and tornado.

According to Delaware County officials, a Disaster Emergency was declared at effective midnight Nov. 1.

No major injuries were reported despite the destruction and a shelter has been set up for displaced families.

According to Fox 29, about 24 homes in Thornbury were damaged during the storm. Of those homes, eight are severely damaged, CBS Philadelphia reports.

Emergency responders in the area had to cut away fallen tree limbs to rescue residents from home, according to Action News.
