Man In Northampton Gave Dogs 'Severe Injuries': Police

He and his girlfriend were supposed to be caring for six Yorkshire terriers owned by the girlfriend's aunt, police say.

NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Northampton Township have arrested a man they say caused "severe injuries" to several of six dogs he was keeping.

Patrick Michael Burke, 31, was arrested on Monday and charged with cruelty to animals.

According to police, the Bucks County SPCA received a complaint in January from a woman who said she left six Yorkshire terriers with her niece and Burke, her niece's boyfriend, while she went on vacation.

"When she returned from her vacation, she noticed several of the dogs had severe injuries," Northampton Township Police said.

Police worked with the SPCA to investigate and, ultimately, a warrant was issued for Burke's arrest. He turned himself in to police on Monday.
