After Historic Flood, Perkiomen Twp Gets $236K For Infrastructure

Aging and deteriorating storm and sanitary sewer lines will be replaced, and other vulnerable infrastructure restored.

PERKIOMEN TOWNSHIP, PA — Several local municipalities have received major funding boosts to help handle stormwater and flood control.

Perkiomen Township, which saw the Perkiomen Creek rage to historic heights amid Tropical Storm Isaias earlier this month, will receive $236,000, State Rep. Joe Ciresi announced Monday.

“While stormwater and sewer infrastructure is usually not at the top of people’s minds, it’s absolutely critical to keep maintained and in good repair,” Ciresi said. in a statement, also announcing funding for nearby Pottstown. “This is why funding for these projects in Pottstown and Perkiomen was a major priority of mine, so that we address these structural issues now, not later when they could put people and the environment at risk. I will keep pushing to invest in repairing and modernizing our infrastructure and make sure that our communities have a strong foundation to build on.”

It will also replace 130 feet of asbestos-cement piping along the Perkiomen Trail, a line which has degraded "considerably," officials said.
