Bevilacqua's Cause of Death to Be Announced

Montgomery County Coroner Walter I. Hofman will hold a press conference in Norristown, Thursday, March 8, at 1 p.m. to release his findings concerning Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua's death, according to a Fox 29 news report.

Cardinal Bevilacqua died in Wynnewood, PA, Jan. 31, 2012, at age 88. The former head of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia had suffered from cancer and dementia. His death came one day after a judge declared him competent to testify in the trial of three priests accused of sexual abuse.

Coroner Walter I. Hofman did not say what kind of drugs were found in Cardinal Bevilacqua's system, and "his office is now testing to see if the amount of drugs in Bevilacqua's system at the time of his death matches the prescribed dosage," the report states.
