Boil Water Advisory Issued In Perkiomen Township

Several area communities are under a boil water advisory after a water main broke in Norristown.

PERKIOMEN VALLEY, PA — Several area communities are under a boil water advisory after a water main broke in Norristown.

The incident occurred at Main and Markley streets early Monday morning.

The west end of Norristown has no running water, and authorities say that there is "little to no" water pressure elsewhere. A total of 33,500 customers are impacted, authorities said.

A boil water advisory was issued for all residents who use the Norristown water system, which includes Norristown and Bridgeport, as well as portions of West Norriton, East Norriton, Upper Merion, Plymouth, Lower Providence, Whitemarsh, and Perkiomen Township.

Crews from American Water are on the scene working on the issue.

It's not yet clear what caused the break.

The intersection is closed to traffic, and motorists are being detoured.
