MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Officials have announced information on the cause of death of a Montgomery County teen who was found dead earlier this week.

Maryann Dyer, 16, was found dead in a park in Upper Hanover on Wednesday, police said. Her cause of death has been ruled a suicide by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.

Maryann had last been seen walking home from Upper Perkiomen High School just a day earlier, at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the start of the new school year.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help raise money for her funeral expenses. A total of 166 donors had contributed $7,320 as of early Friday.

"My beautiful daughter Maryann was taken too soon," her mother Theresa Schmitt wrote.

A statement from the Upper Perk Police Department Wednesday stated that they ""have no information to indicate there is a threat to the community."

Police said that Dyer had called her mother in the afternoon on Tuesday. She was last seen walking east on 11th Street in Red Hill.

The Upper Perkiomen School District announced in a Facebook post early Thursday that they had postponed an open house event set for Thursday evening.
