As Election Season Rages, Montco Fire Company Douses Vitriol

PERKIOMEN TOWNSHIP, PA — With a tumultuous and vicious election season taking its toll on a community already exhausted from the throes of the coronavirus pandemic and social unrest, communities are sometimes hard pressed to find glimmers of optimism in the shell of our democracy.

The Perkiomen Township Fire Company shared a message on the marquee outside of their station this week hoping to accomplish just that.

"We will be here for you no matter who you vote for," the encouraging sign notes.

It then adds below: "Volunteers needed."

In a year so fraught with uncertainty and foundational threats to society, the simplicity of the reminder was poignant: regardless of who is in charge, American government at its best is, as Abraham Lincoln noted, "of the people, by the people, for the people."
