Runners, walkers took steps to aid in the fight against domestic violence.

More than 300 men, women and children laced up for Laurel House's annual 5K Dash in Upper Gwynedd on Sunday morning. Named for Pennsylvania's state flower, "Laurel House is a comprehensive domestic violence agency serving individuals, families and communitites throughout Montgomery County, Pennsylvania," according to the organization's website. The annual event raises about $20,000 for the organization, said press contact Tina Reynolds.

Sponsors included Portolese Family Chiropractic, Mary Kay Inc. and Fleet Feet Sports; face painting, raffles and balloon animals were among the family-friendly activities available at the pavilion.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month; abuse affects men and women throughout the U.S. every day.
