Montco LGBT and Friends Offer County Meet-Ups
A social group of LGBT friends offers good times, support and fun.

It isn't the city. Montgomery County is surely a suburb. Somehow, that difference in geography can make it harder for those in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered community, often known as "LGBT," to find support.
Within Philadelphia, there are a multitude of support groups, meeting spaces and well-known centers of community, of friendships, of social organizations for the LGBT persons. But, what really is there in Montgomery County?
Search no further. Meetup.com has the answer for you.

With 109 members in a "peace-loving" social network, MontCo LGBT and Friends offers just that.
"This group is being formed to bring together in a friendly, understanding and nurturing environment," explained the group's page on Meetup.com. "To my knowledge there is no such group locally, without having to travel into Philly."

The group's organizer is listed only as "Sandy C." She has created the group for a multitude of reasons.
"Our purpose will be to get together socially, enjoy each others company, form friendships and relationships," explained Sandy C. on the group's page.
She said that she doesn't soley set the schedule of events. Instead, she takes input from the entire group.
"As a group [we] decide what it is we want to be and the things we want to do," she said.
The current meet-ups offer a very wide variety of activities. From visits to a wine school, to rock climbing days, there are active, social, low-key, quiet, fun, loud ... events of really all kinds on this page.
Occasionaly, members of the group ask if others want to make a political stance, such as one listed on Thursday, May 23 at 4 p.m., asking if others would like to "Protest Against Anti-Gay Sports Camp." Only one member has said they'd attend.
Other more laid back events are scheduled, too. On Sunday, June 9, at 1 p.m., at least five members are going "Walking @ Peace Valley."
Currently, the group shows 10 reviews, with all positive notes. Some call it a "friendly group" or a "great group," while others say "so far so good" or call it "completely enjoyable."
One calls the group "Absolutely the best humans around!"
