Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy Receives $10K Verizon Foundation Award

Funds will help to support its youth video initiative; competition open to students

Director of Environmental Education Trudy Phillips submitted the following information:

The is pleased to announce that it has received a $10,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation to fund the Conservancy’s “My Water – From Rainwater to Groundwater” youth video contest.  The Conservancy’s initiative will provide an educational journey from awareness to action for its contestants.

“My Water – From Rainwater to Groundwater” challenges fourth through 12th grade youth living in the watershed, to create a video whose message focuses on the important role rainwater plays in recharging groundwater. Groundwater is the primary source of drinking water for thousands in the Perkiomen Creek Watershed and beyond.  The student or group of students who create the first place video will win the grand prize -- the design and installation of a rain garden for their school or group-meeting site. Additional awards will be available for the second and third place videos. The final video submission date is Friday, May 5.The top 10 scoring videos will be available for viewing on the Conservancy’s website, Facebook page, and Constant Contact e-newsletter.

Viewers will be able to vote for their favorite videos online. The online viewing community will generate fifty percent of the score for each video, while professionals in the field will score the remaining fifty percent.  The top three scoring videos will be announced Friday, May 25, with the highest scoring video winning the grand prize.
