Probe of Bevilacqua's Death Continues

Preliminary findings show the late Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua had prescription pharmaceuticals in his system, according to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office, which has been investigating the Cardinal's death. (Source: Fox 29 News)

Coroner Walter I. Hofman did not say what kind of drugs were found in Cardinal Bevilacqua's system, and "his office is now testing to see if the amount of drugs in Bevilacqua's system at the time of his death matches the prescribed dosage," the report states.

Cardinal Bevilacqua died Jan. 31, 2012, one day after a judge declared him competent to testify in the trial of three priests accused of sexual abuse. He had been suffering from cancer and dementia at the time of his death.

It will take several weeks to get results from the next step of the investigation, according to the Fox 29 report.
