PV Girls Win Another Tourney Title

First-place victory in Carlisle, PA

The Perkiomen Valley Youth Travel Basketball Girls 6th Grade (11 and younger) Team continued their regional winning ways taking first place at the 12th annual Carlisle Thunder Spring Basketball Tournament on Feb. 23-25, in Carlisle, PA.  

The Perkiomen Valley team, who won the prestegious Patrick Fetterman Memorial Invitational Basketball Tournament in Cooperstown, NY, this past January, went undefeated in Central Pennsylvania. The team finished 5-0 and bested Pennsylvania regional powerhouses Chambersburg, Hershey and host Carlisle on their road to the championship.  

"The young ladies traveling to play high-caliber competition and winning has allowed them to develop in basketball, but more importantly in life learning commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship," stated Bob Herbein, director of Perkiomen Valley Travel Basketball.

Led by tenacious defense that was anchored by Guard Hannah Brown and Forwards Jessie Oltman and Brittany Donigan, the squad allowed just 49 points in 5 games. The team ended with a resounding 29-15 victory over the host Carlisle Thunder in the finals. Center Alex Blomstrom controlled the lane and led the squad in scoring with 44 points in the tourney. Standout guards Kylie Webb and Jill Kachmar chipped in 17 apiece throughout the three days.   

The team competes each winter in the Inter-County Basketball Association basketball league with teams from Berks, Bucks, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.
