The transformed into a North Pole of sorts on Friday, Dec. 16, as area residents stopped by from 7-9 p.m. to enjoy hot chocolate, cookies and a visit with Santa Claus.
Around this time of year, the fire crews usually climb aboard several trucks and make their way down the numerous township streets. This first-time event for Skippack Fire Co. is meant to replace that trip, according to Fire Chief Haydn Marriott IV, who noted that keeping Santa's visit in-house would save on time and gas. Also, the timing of the routes is hard to predict, so a family could likely miss the arrival of the man in red. With an event held at a certain time, people could guarantee their children get to see Santa, Marriott said.
The and Masonic Child Identification Program (Masonichip) representatives were also on hand to provide parents with free individual child identification packages.
