Update: Minor Injuries in School Bus Crash in Skippack

A teacher's aide was taken to Abington Health Lansdale Hospital to be treated for "a bump on the head" she suffered when the school bus she was riding was involved in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Routes 73 and 113 in Skippack Township around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Pennsylvania Police said.

Other people involved in the crash complained of "basic aches and pains," said Trooper Stephen Dozier. The aide was conscious at the scene. One of the drivers, Deborah Belani, 64, of Norristown, was taken to Mercy Suburban Hospital "for minor aches and pains on her left side," according to a police report.

According to a witness report, the school bus was traveling through "a steady red light" on Route 73 when it collided with the driver's side of an Audi A4 sedan which was turning left onto Route 73 from Route 113, said Dozier. After the Audi was hit, it swerved and hit a Nissan Maxima that was going around the Audi, Dozier said.

Harleysville and Skippack EMS and Lansdale Medical Corps responded to the scene. Skippack firefighters worked to help clear the scene and were called for a "door pop" to help extricate a car's driver.

Traffic was diverted from the scene for at least a half hour.

Twenty-one students, accompanied by adult chaperones, from Philadelphia's Parkway Peace and Social Justice High School were riding the Atlantic Express Company bus to a retreat at Fellowship Farm in Pottstown. Wawa (at the Skippack intersection) welcomed the students to sit on their grounds as they waited for another bus.

The bus driver will be cited in connection to the crash, troopers said.

Source One and Bergey's, respectively, towed the Audi and the school bus.
