Skippack Village Lights Up the Night

Huge crowd turns out for annual tree lighting

Skippack Village's annual tree lighting ceremony Friday evening, Nov. 25, welcomed the Christmas season with singing, dancing and a visit from Santa.

The Merrie Madrigals gathered in front of and sang songs such as "Deck the Halls," Silent Night," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," and "Jingle Bells," during which they had help from some of the younger members of the crowd (and their parents' car keys).

Next up were the much-anticipated dancers, who grooved to Celtic music, "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Christmas Wrapping."
Family and friends waved enthusiastically to their familiar dancers, cheering loudly and calling out names.

As 7 p.m. approached, the Skippack Fire Co. engine roared down Route 73/Skippack Pike with the guest of honor, Santa Claus, on board. The crowd's already-high levels of enthusiasm soared as the man in red made his way to his chair on the platform by the tree. After counting down from 10, the lights blazed on the tree, and children lined up for their chances to sit with Santa and share their Christmas wishes.
