St. Mary's Observes Ash Wednesday
Local Catholics attend morning Mass to mark beginning of Lent
St. Mary's school community and parishioners attended the church's 9 a.m. Mass Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22, to observe the start of Lent.
The 40-day period leading up to Easter, is marked by "prayer, fasting and alms giving," as the Catholic congregation was reminded during the homily.
"We are supposed to do these things for our salvation and the salvation of tohers. It can be hard to remember (these things) because the world goes so fast... ."
Parishioner Jen Allwein said her Lenten goal is to "read a chapter of the Bible each week," starting with the Gospels.
