Flag Ceremony Tops 5 Weekend Things To Do Around Peters

But it's hardly the only interesting activity going on this Veterans Day weekend.

PETERS TOWNSHIP, PA - In an area with one of the highest numbers, percentage-wise, of veterans in the country, this has to be the number one activity around town to attend this weekend.

In the great hall of the Senator John Heinz Heinz History Center in the Strip District on Veterans Day, there will be what is sure to be a moving and patriotic flag ceremony. At noon on Saturday, local veterans and museum visitors will unfurl a giant 36-foot American flag. During the ceremony that follows, the national anthem will be played and a moment of silence will be held to honor the veterans who have served this country. Then visitors will help fold the flag.

The Senator John Heinz History Center Veterans Day Flag Ceremony is free with a regular admission to the center.

Other weekend highlights:

  • “The Humans,” Pittsburgh Public Theater, Nov. 10-11, 8 p.m.; Nov. 12, 2 p.m., O’Reilly Theater, Downtown.

Winner of the 2016 Tony Award for best play, “The Humans” is an uproarious comedy and a serious drama that The New York Times has described “as entertaining as it is honest.” Brigid and Richard have moved into a shabby two-floor apartment in New York’s Chinatown just in time for Thanksgiving, and her family arrives to laugh, argue, and eat. Being dished up with the turkey are fears, real and imagined, experienced by many Americans dealing with life today.
“The Humans” tickets start at $30.
