A McMurray man who was uninjured when his Ford Mustang traveled over an embankment and into a Lawrence creek is being charged with driving under the influence following the July 4 crash.
Cecil Township police said when officers arrived, they discovered the driver—later identified as Mark Chedgy, 24, standing outside the vehicle.
He told police that e was traveling east on Hahn Road when he lost control of his vehicle.
As they spoke with Chedgy, officers noted a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the man—and noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy.
Asked if he had been drinking, Chedgy reportedly told officers he had consumed three beers earlier in the day.
Police asked the man to perform field sobriety tests, which all showed signs of impairment.
Officers believed he was incapable of safe driving and placed him under arrest for suspicion of DUI, police said.
Chedgy was transported to the North Strabane Township Police Department, where a breath test shows that Chedgy had a blood-alcohol content of .184 percent—more than twice the legal limit.
Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department and SouthBridge EMS also responded to the scene.
