Peters Mulling Bower Hill Road Options

Traffic calming measures being considered from Bebout Road to Springdale Road.

PETERS TOWNSHIP, PA - Seeking to slow motorists traveling along a stretch of Bower Hill Road, township officials will hold an open house next week to discuss possible traffic calming measures.

But that doesn’t mean changes are imminent for the area being discussed, Bower Hill from Bebout Road to Springdale Road. The open house is merely the first step in the township’s decade-old traffic calming policy, with a study measuring traffic counts and speeds necessary before any alterations to the road are made.

The meeting will be held May 10 in the municipal building from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Among the possible measures mentioned in the traffic calming policy are speed humps, traffic circles, center islands, median barriers and realigned intersections. Before implementing any temporary or permanent traffic calming measures, officials consider such things as how they would impact things such as emergency response times and snow removal.
