Peters Prepares For Earth Day

Occasion will be marked with volunteer cleanup, recycling events.

PETERS TOWNSHIP - With Earth Day little more than a week away on April 22, the township has announced plans to mark the event.

Peters will hold its annual cleanup day on April 22 as part of the larger Keep America Beautiful Campaign designed to help curb littering, increase recycling efforts and beautify communities. Volunteers meeting at 9 a.m. in the recreation center will be provided with a location to clean, gloves, garbage bags and a safety vest. To sign up for for the event, click here.

The township also will hold a recycling event from 9 a.m. to noon at the public works facility at 750 Bebout Road in Venetia Residents will be able to drop off the following items to be recycled: car batteries, scrap metal and electronic items such as TVs, computers and monitors. There is no charge for those items, but there will be a $3 fee for any tire dropped off.

The township also is accepting old bicycles for donation to the City Mission, Washington County Food Bank and the Brother’s Brother Foundation. About a thousand bikes have been donated over the years, township officials said.
